Planning a trip to India? You may be aware that the Government of India has discontinued the use of old series currency notes of ₹1,000.00 and ₹500.00 denomination, from 8 November 2016. This was a step aimed at curbing corruption, tax evasion and counterfeit currency.

Due to this step, some foreign tourists/visitors in India have reported difficulty in converting international currency into Indian currency. Credit/debit cards and online transactions, however, continue with no hassles.

The Embassy would, therefore, advise foreign tourists/visitors travelling to India to carry valid and sufficiently funded international credit/debit cards. This would make for a smoother travel experience in Incredible India.
